ASU Receives Funding for the Rehabilitation of the University Library
ASU, Banga-The Aklan State University received funding support from several Government Officials for the Rehabilitation of its library which was completely razed by fire on March 17, 2004.
Through the initiative of its President, Dr. Benny A. Palma, the ASU
received several funding support for the rehabilitation of its
library. The damage and loses were estimated worth Forty Million Pesos
(P40, 000,000.00). The library, according to Dr. Palma, is the “brain,
heart, and soul of the University. Without it, the students will be
deprived of the opportunity to access quality education and enjoy their
constitutional rights.”
With this matter in his heart and mind, Dr. Palma, have sent
several request letters for Government Officials, whom, he know, care
enough for the students, understand their dilemmas and needs, and have
the means and authority to release funding support for the speedy
rehabilitation of the said library.
On January 12, 2005, less than a year after Dr. Palma’s letter
request to Senator Ramon Magsaysay, Jr., the university President
received a communication informing him that Sen. Magsaysay have
allocated the amount of One Million five Hundred Thousand Pesos
(P1,500,000.00) from his Congressional Initiative Allocation under the
Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF). The said fund has been
released by the Department of Budget and Management covered by Special
Allotment Release Order (SARO) No. ROCS-04-03699 dated December 13,
2004, to the University as financial assistance for the; (1)
Rehabilitation of library building (P1, 000,000.00), (2) Internet
Library (P300, 000.00), and (3) Completion of Forestry Building (P200,
000.00).
Prior to that, on March 26, 2004, the ASU also received financial
support from former Congresswoman Gabrielle V. Calizo through her infra
projects with SARO No. ROVI-2004-103. The amount of Five hundred
Thousand Pesos (P500, 000.00) was allotted for the partial construction
of the ASU Library Audio Visual Room. On that same year, December 13,
2004, Honorable Florencio T. Miraflores, Representative of the Lone
District of Aklan, have allotted an amount of One Million five hundred
Pesos (P1, 500,000.00) for the rehabilitation of the ASU library. And
on June 26, 2006, Hon. Eulogio R. Magsaysay, Representative, Alliance
of Volunteer Educators (AVE) Partylist have apportioned under SARO No.
A-06-03992, an amount of One million fifty Thousand Pesos (P1,
050,000.00) for the completion of the rehabilitation of the ASU Library.
During an interview with Engr. Loreto P. Indelible, Jr., Director
for Campus Planning and Development of ASU, he said that the funding
support given by Sen. Ramon Magsaysay was used for the partial roofing
of the library while the fund from Cong. Miraflores was utilized for
