ASU extends technologies in the Province of Aurora

Banga, Aklan - The Aklan State University (ASU) conducted a Technology Forum for the Province of Aurora at the Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) in Baler, Aurora on June 6, 2006.

The forum aimed at achieving a common understanding, interaction and networking in various agricultural technologies through knowledge sharing amongst research and development institutions and local government units. Through its collaborative efforts, the Provincial Government of Aurora recognized the common objective shared by the two institutions of higher learning, which is to improve agricultural productivity through research, technological development and extension service delivery.

About 72 participants from the Provincial and Municipal Governments of Aurora, faculty and staff of ASCOT attended the technology forum. It consisted of sharing of experiences and hands-on demonstration on Solid Waste Management specifically on Shredding of Biodegradables and Vermicomposting by Hon. Ernesto I. Temploneuvo of Numancia, Aklan. Likewise, on Mayon Turbo Stove and Dryer: the Poor Man’s Gas Stove by Dr. Edito T. Agustin. Presentation of project proposals on the following technologies highlighted the forum: Farmer-Teacher on High Value Crops; High Value Organic Vegetable Production; Food Processing; Coco Coir Processing; Research and Development Program and the Ladderized Curriculum on Hotel and Restaurant Management.

Pres. Benny A. Palma led the team of resource persons from ASU with Dr. Edito T. Agustin, Professor V, Dr. Anna Mae C. Relingo, Director for Extension and Community Services, Prof. Michael T. Ibisate, and For. Melba L. Raga-as, of the ASU-College of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Sciences.

The technology forum was coordinated by ASCOT, headed by its President, Dr. Romeo S. Cabanilla, and the Provincial Government of Aurora under the leadership of Governor Bellaflor J. Angara-Castillo
