SAS Chosen as CICT Partner for Content Development

The Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) has named the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) the Commission’s partner in ASU for content development.

This came as Ms Maria Leanna A. Beltran, CICT project manager, visited the university on June 3-5 to supervise the holding of the 1st Seminar Workshop on Online Journalism: Web Writing for Literary, Cultural, and Historical Content. She was accompanied by her Assistant Project Manager Juvy Manlapaz, Technical and Creative Consultant Rica Palomo-Espiritu, Research Associate Gemma Viel, and Lead Artist Jerald Dorado.

According to Ms Beltran, the forging of this partnership translates to CICT’s vote of trust and confidence in SAS under the able deanship of Dr Mary Eden Macahilig-Teruel. Ms Beltran was so happy with the way the SAS faculty and staff conducted the seminar workshop that she announced at the exit meeting with University President Dr Benny A Palma that SAS would be the implementing unit of all the CICT content development and human capability efforts in the university.

The announcement was made after Ms Beltran personally handed to President Palma the mobilization funds for the Second Phase of the CBT Modules for English Proficiency Project, which is now transferred to SAS, and the iLearn ePortal Project, which is now managed by the School of Rural Resource Development and Management - Ibajay.

In his closing remarks at the seminar workshop, Dr Palma expressed his gratitude to Ms Beltran for helping the university become the region’s hub for e-learning and center for ICT development. Dr Teruel, on her part, assured Ms Beltran that SAS has the potential, resources, and willingness to take on the challenges of ICT.

Before she left for Manila, Ms Beltran had instructed Mr Edecio Venturanza II, Content Development Manager for the English and iLearn projects, to prepare the working papers for the upcoming trainings and seminars to further build the human capability of the university in line with CICT content development projects and initiatives.
