Dr Jose “Butch” Dalisay Jr., award-winning Filipino fictionist from the University of the Philippines Diliman, was one of the resource speakers at the Seminar Workshop on Online Journalism: Web Writing for Literary, Cultural, and Historical Content organized by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) and the School of Arts and Sciences on June 3-5, 2008 at the ASU-AEOP Conference Hall, Main Campus, Banga, Aklan.
Dr Dalisay, fresh from the National Writers’ Workshop in Dumaguete City, gave lectures on the advent of online journalism, as well as the techniques and style of the new writing genre. An Internet enthusiast and first-rate blogger, he discussed the history, directions, and implications, including the rudiments and practices of web writing.
With him were two academic stalwarts from UP, who spoke on Philippine and world history, culture, and literature – Dr Lily Rose Roxas-Tope and Dr Isabela Banzon-Mooney. All of them teach at the Department of English and Comparative Literature in UP Diliman.
After the presentation of outputs, Dr Dalisay commended the participants for producing well-written critiques and translations of some of Philippine and Asian literary texts please visit www.asuseminar.blogspot.com. He was very pleased with the turnout of the seminar, which he hoped would ignite a sustained interest in online writing towards the vision of ASU President Dr Benny Palma for an ICT-enabled learning and instruction in the university. He even featured the seminar in his column in The Philippine Star which came out in its June 9 issue.
Some 35 faculty members from the different campuses attended the said seminar. A team from CICT, lead by Project Manager for Content Development Ma Leanna Beltran, also came to oversaw the three-day event.
