ASU Researchers, Regional Winners!
August 14, 2008 - Dr. Molly Naigan (SVM) and Prof. Eva Orlina (CAFES) successfully represented our university in the recently concluded 18th Regional Symposium on Research and Development Highlights (RSRDH) in Baybay, Roxas City.
The research of Dr. Naigan entitled “In Vitro Acaricidal Effect of Tubli (Derris elliptica) Root Extract Against Nymph and Adult Brown Dog Tick (Rhipicephalus sanguinues) and Tropical Cattle Tick (Boophilus microplus)” was 2nd runner up in the Research Category, besting 14 other researches from Capiz State University, Central Philippine University, Department of Natural Resources VI, National Mango Research and Development Center, Negros State College of Agriculture and West Visayas State University.
On the other hand, Prof. Orlina’s research entitled “Characterization of Heavy Metals in Sewage Sludge and Soils in Boracay” was 2nd runner up in the Poster Category, besting 11 other competing researches under this category.
The RSRDH is an annual event organized by the Western Visayas Agriculture Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVARRDEC). The best research and development papers during the symposium will represent the region in the National Research and Development Symposium of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD).
Aside from taking home certificates of recognition and cash prizes, the research papers of Dr. Naigan and Prof. Orlina will be included in the Research Highlights, an annual publication of PCARRD. This new triumph has again proven that when it comes to research, Aklan State University is truly one of the five top performing SUCs in the country, deserving of the 5M research grant from Senator Ed Angara.
