ASU receives 5M Research Fund
Sen. Edgardo Angara approved the release of the Five Million Pesos
Research Fund last July 17, 2008 from the Department of Budget and
Management (DBM) to Aklan State University (ASU) pursuant to RA
No.9498, The General Appropriations Act, Fiscal Year 2008 for its
innovation and generation of knowledge and technology in Agriculture,
Fisheries and Food Production.
The Research Fund has been allocated to finance the various
projects/programs in the university. On top of these is Sustainable
Agriculture (SA) which is allotted 1.5M that focuses on Food Security.
The proposed research projects under (SA) are Commercialization of
Organic Rice and Farm Animals, High Value Fruit Farm Establishment and
Commercialization, Commercialization of Natural Fiber and Dye- Yielding
Plants, Post Harvest and Processing of Farm Products.
On the other hand, Environmental Management (EM) which focuses on
Upland and Costal Resource Conservation is allotted Php500, 000.00.Some
of the proposed research projects under (EM) are The Changes of
Landscape of Upland Farming System, Feature Changes of Water Flow in
Aklan River, Coastal Resource Management Practices in Isla Kapispisan
and Monitoring of Metrological and Climate Change.
Another research project is Eco-Tourism Dev and Promotion (ETDP) which
is allotted Php250, 000.00.The Local Culture Integration for Tourist
attraction and The Service Facilities and Tourists Spots Settings are
among the proposed research projects in this area.
Industrial Technology Development (ITD) is likewise allotted Php500,
000.00 for its Innovation and Service Promotion. ITD includes the
Design and Fabrication of Farm Tools and Household Equipment and
Industrial Business establishment and Service Promotion.
Other programs which will benefit the research fund are Facilities and
Service Development (FSD) Php500,000.00; Bio- Enterprise and Renewable
Energy (BERE) Php350,000.00; Health and Social Welfare
(HSW),Php500,000.00 ; Human Resource Development (HRD)
Php500,000.00;Gender and Development (GD) Php150,000.00; and
Php250,000.00 will be allotted to the Standardization of Programs to
enhance the quality of education.
