SUC’s IT Professionals gather at ASU for iSchools Linux Camp and IOSN Training

Banga, Aklan - Attended by 18 International Open Source Network (IOSN) instructors from different state universities and colleges of the country, the Linux Camp was held, October 20-30, 2008 at Aklan State University.

“Bridging the digital divide,” being the ultimate purpose of the project, ensures that schools and universities’ IT and IT related professionals are well disposed to the trends of information and communications technologies.

ImageDr. Benny A. Palma, university president, and through Dr. Roberto L. Saladar, vice president for Research and Development Services in coordination with the Information and Communications Technology Services director, Teresita B. Naculangga, made the training possible.

Harvey Diaz and Prof. Francis D. Dimzon, who were Certified Linux Professionals, were sent by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) to lecture on the basic practices and operations on Linux operating system for the first week. On the second week, another pair of qualified trainers Eric Manuel Pareja and Prof. Reuben T. Campos came to take charge on matters regarding Advance Linux Operations.

The training was offered to the participants for free. However, they were expected to take the examinations on December 1, 2008 as required by the commission.

A mock exam concluded the training to prepare the participants for the Linux Professional Institute Certification.
