Three thousand fingerlings of seabass and P5,000.00 worth of feeds were distributed to the model listener-graduates of Fisheries School-on-the-Air on Seabass Culture at Aklan State University-College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, New Washington, Aklan on June 24, 2010. There were four recipients from Barangay Dumaguit, Pinamuk-an and Poblacion, New Washington, Aklan. The dispersal is part of the Fisheries School on the Air on Seabass Culture aired from December 2009 to April 2010 over DYMT-FM and DYYM-FM. On the same date, 32 fisherfolks attended the barangay cliniquing on the seabass culture held at Barangay Pinamuk-an. The topics focused on the market potential of seabass, transport of fingerlings, pond and cage culture, feeds and feeding management, diseases prevention and control, harvesting and transport of seabass, and marketing and export. The activity aimed to educate fishfarmers on seabass culture for increased livelihood opportunities and to provide fishfarmers with additional knowledge to ensure the sustainability of the industry. The activities were made possible in partnership with the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Office 6, Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department, University of the Philippines Visayas Zonal Center for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development, Tateh Aqua Feeds, FINFISH Hatcheries, Inc. and Aklan State University. ![]() |
